We arrived in hot and humid Accra and checked into one of the better hotels in the tourist district.

Over the next week we spent each day meeting with a bunch of government departments and officials, several UN agencies, a handful of NGOs and other relevant organizations.

By the week’s end we were happy to see the last of Accra.  The city doesn’t have much to offer the tourist whatsoever (although the market was fun): it’s an unattractive city and difficult to get around.

There’s always one…  And this time it’s me.

For all the years I lived in Switzerland, I decided to live close to work in Baden.  That was definitely a trade-off as all the action was in Zurich, a 15 minute train ride away.  Baden was definitely a sleepy little town in comparison.

As I was working in Germany over the summer, I couldn’t resist a trip back to Zurich and Baden to catch up with old friends there.  While there, I realized just how few photos of Zurich I’d taken over the years, so I spent half a day walking around snapping photos of the lake, river and Altstadt.  I’ve added a few of them here.

It also was great to catch up with the rugby club crowd in our favourite haunt, the Oliver Twist Pub.

After I finished the academic year at Berkeley, and before I started work in Germany for the summer, I got back to Switzerland to visit some friends and get back into the Alps for a hike or two.

While there I stayed in Baden, the town where I lived for the five years I was in Switzerland.  When I left Switzerland, my good mate Andy Passmore from work took over my apartment, and he was gracious enough to let me with him while I was in town.  I have to admit it was a bit of a trip to be staying in my old apartment – with much of my old furniture – as a guest!
