Manaslu Awaits
We’re now in Kathmandu after a wonderful wedding weekend in Mexico. We left first thing Monday morning, got back to San Francisco with just enough time to change our bags over, and we then returned to SFO airport for our flight to Istanbul and on to Nepal. It was a long but uneventful trip halfway around the world.
We spent yesterday and today doing final preparations with Climb High Himalaya for the expedition as well as taking in a couple of the sights around the city – Durbar Square, the Boudhanath stupa, beautiful Swayambhunath up on the hill – as well as cruising around the Thamel area with the other trekkers and climbers (the big commercial expeditions are also here right now preparing for their trips too). It felt great to be back in Kathmandu, some 12 years since Dad and I were here before our trek through the Everest Region.
We leave early tomorrow to drive some 6-8 hours along what are sure to be atrocious and death-defying roads to the town of Arughat and get the trek started along with our guide, cook and porters. We’re really excited to get going on our adventure after all the planning and preparation!
I’ll have my inReach device with us for the trip so you can follow our progress or send us a short message at share.delorme.com/anderson.
Will write again once we emerge from the mountains in three weeks. Ciao for now!
